WELCOME TO THE POPLARS WINE, COONAWARRA

The Poplars commenced marketing its first vintages from its Coonawarra,
South Australia base in 2004. While under the same management our
wines are now only available through direct wine sales, by telephone, email
or internet orders.
While our emphasis has been on Coonawarra wines, we also produce wines from regions in the Limestone Coast zone. These include Mount Benson, Wrattonbully and Padthaway. Our range always includes Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir amongst it’s red wines. Our white wines always include a Mount Benson Sauvignon Blanc, Coonawarra Chardonnay and our semi sweet Chardonnay based Delicioso. THE POPLARS name came from the name of the trees planted as a shelter belt around the vineyards. Mr. Ron Haselgrove O.B.E. of Mildara Wines had seen similar use of Poplars in France and the trees were planted under his direction in the early 1960s. The idea behind the planting was to prevent cold air masses rolling into the vineyard during spring frost danger times. In 2007 our label SUNDOWN Range was founded as a lower price range than The Poplars. Sundown has sold well in Australia although most of the wine has been sold in the international market. The very popular Sundown Sparkling Pink (Chardonnay Pinot Noir) wine has sold out. Our parent company Gold Wine Sales Pty Ltd markets these wines in the National and International Market. Gold Wine Sales also offers a selection of rare and unusual wines of other brands from South Australian regions. In some cases this includes single bottle sales.
